As our re-homed dogs settle into their new homes

we will bring you their updated stories here

MAGGIE
Maggie first came to our family's notice when pictures and a description of her was seen on Trade Me in 2009. We arranged two meetings with Graeme, Jenny and Dianne so that all our family could meet Maggie. For us all it was love at first sight. Wow! what a fabulous Border Collie she was and we would love to have her as a new family member.

We must have met the criteria for adoption as a few days later we were at the Dog Protection Society home to sign the appropiate paperwork, make a donation and take Maggie with us to her new home.

After a couple of weeks of settling in to her new surroundings, which went well except for the odd expected oops, we took Maggie on holiday for a week to Matapouri Bay. She had a ball at Matapouri, chasing waves along the beach, swimming, exploring the hillsides and tracks in the area plus getting to know our 9yr old grandson.
Back in Auckland it has been a bit more of a mundane lifestyle for her, walking various areas and parks around home at least once a day. During late spring and summer she has particularly enjoyed assisting in watering the garden. She will chase and jump at the spray for as long as one is prepared to spray water. The vege garden plants have suffered from the occasional mistimed jump at the spray at times, but we live with that watching her enjoy herself so much.

We have only had a couple of occasions where we have been able to take Maggie away sailing in our yacht. After her initial nervousness at the movement of the yacht and transfering to the inflatable to go ashore, she has become quite the confident boatie in the short time she has been sailing. Might be a different story when she has that first unscheduled swim. Maggie enjoying car travel is a bonus also, {after finding out that feeding her before travel is not too good an idea}, and a weekend away with friends at Matarangi {where some of the photos were taken} was as successful as the first trip away.

In the short time we have had Maggie as our family dog she has brought a lot of enjoyment to our lives. The welcome home greeting we get from her when arriving home is worth every walk or time spent looking after her.

We love reading our letters/emails of happy endings for our re-homed dogs.... keep them coming in, and next month we hope to bring you another "tail of happiness"
